BOMBAY, India (AP): Despite her fragile appearance, Indian actress Aishwarya Rai performed bold daredevil stunts in a new action thriller to be released later this year, says the movie's director, Sanjay Gadhvi.

He told the Mumbai Mirror newspaper that Rai trained for months for the action sequences in "Dhoom 2.''

Bombay, India's entertainment hub, is also called Mumbai.

A former Miss World, Rai has acted in more than 30 movies. In her most recent film, she played a woman who kills her husband after 10 years of abuse.

Gadhvi did not give details about the stunts in "Dhoom 2'' and the plot of the movie _ a fast-paced film about cops and robbers _ has been kept under wraps.

"Ash has a lot of guts. She has done some awesome stunts in the film,'' said Gadhvi. "Ash did power yoga for two months and has a perfectly toned body.''

The movie also stars popular Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu.

The movie was filmed in Namibia, South Africa and India. Gadhvi described the movie, to be released later this year, as "bigger, better'' and "faster and more furious'' than the original "Dhoom'' or "Big Bang.''

In the 2004 hit movie, Bachchan played a police officer chasing a gang that uses souped-up motorcycles to rob rich Bombay businessmen.
